HUMAN GLOMERULAR PERMEABILITY AND TUBULAR RECOVERY VALUES FOR HEMOGLOBIN

Abstract
Human glomerular permeability (K) and tubular recovery (Thb) values for hemoglobin were detd. in 19 subjects. The avg. K value was 12.9% of the K for inulin, and the avg. THb value was 17.1 mg./100 cc. glomerular filtrate. The magnitudes of these values varied directly with rate of admn. of hemoglobin and degree of renal ischemia. It is postulated that renal ischemia caused an increased K and THb for hemoglobin on the basis of the known effect of ischemia on capillary permeability.
