Abstract
..The electron optical requirements for the production of electron diffraction patterns are discussed and it is shown that the resolving power is a function of the size of the electron source. A new production instrument is described which was designed for general adaptability and simplicity of operation. A thermionic self-biased electron gun provides a source of small dimensions, the beam from which is focused at the recording plane by a magnetic electron lens. Numerous ports are provided in the body of the instrument to allow for special modes of operation. Beam accelerating voltages up to 100 kV are supplied from a high frequency d.c. set. Some typical electron diffraction patterns are shown. Keywords
