Abstract
A biochemical key to single adult males or females of the 6 known members of the Anopheles gambiae group of species is constructed using genotypes at 4 enzyme protein structural loci: Alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase-l, glutamate-oxaloacetate tranmminase, octanol dehydrogenase and supaoxide dismutase. Species C, D, An. melas and An. merus can be identified unambiguuusly: the probability uf correctly identifying species A or species B from West Africa is 0.93 and from East Africa 0.998. The advantages and limitations of the key are discussed.
