Inhibition of mouse skin tumor promotion by several inhibitors of arachidonic acid metabolism

Abstract
12-O-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate promotion of skin tumors in mice can be inhibited by topical application of eiher the phospholipase A2 inhibitor dibromoacetophenone or the cyclooxygenase-lipoxygenase inhibitors 5,8,11,14-eicosatetrayonic acid or 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone. The phospholipase A2 inhibitors in particular appear to be among the most potent inhibitors of skin tumor promotion known. Apparently, at least some of the products of arachidonic acid transformation are essential for tumor promotion.
