A Glucosamine Conjugate Occurring in Human Urine

Abstract
A non-dialysable hexosamine conjugate is excreted in human urine. The hexosamine moiety is glucosamine, and normally amounts to 32.4[plus or minus]7.2 mg for men and 25.9[plus or minus]5.8 mg for women/day. The conjugate originates endogenously, but is unrelated to somatotype, age, or urinary volume. No enzymatic evidence that the conjugate is a mucoprotein could be obtained. It appears to be principally a combination of glucosamine and galactose.
