Abstract
A newborn infant with isoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura due to incompatibility of the P1A1 platelet antigen system was treated with transfusion of incompatible platelets and by exchange transfusion, without improvement in the thrombocytopenic purpura. After the transfusion of compatible maternal P1A1-negative platelets, there was a sustained improvement in the platelet count and cessation of hemorrhage. Exchange transfusion combined with infusion of washed maternal platelets may be the treatment of choice in this uncommon disorder. Keywords
