Near-ideal self-induced-transparency breakup in highly degenerate systems

Abstract
Choice of light polarization should allow near-ideal self-induced-transparency (SIT) phenomena to be observed in all degenerate or nondegenerate systems. We show that the near-ideal SIT breakup observed in S by Zembrod and Gruhl is expected on theoretical grounds.
