Abstract
The effects of a hydrostatic pressure on the shear modulus and the structural transition temperature of Si are studied on the basis of the Weger-Labbé-Friedel model with currently known parameters. Taking into account the charge transfer between and bands, our results can quantitatively account for the recent observations of Carcia and Barsch on and Chu and Testardi on .
