Cellulose Decomposition by Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria from Soil

Abstract
Five new species of aerobic cellulose-decomposing bacteria are described. Three are species of Pseudomonas (P. ephemerocyanea, P. lasia, and P. erythra), one of Achromobacter (A. picrum), and P. erythra all are versatile organisms capable of growing well on many carbohydrates. A. picrum alone produces acid from cellulose and sugars. B. aporrhoeus gives motile colonies on starch and glucose-agar.
