The effect of X-rays on the glucose and hexose-phosphate glycolysis of tumour tissue

Abstract
Radiation of tumor tissue at 0[degree] C. by [chi] or [gamma] rays inhibited the activity of the tissue in forming lactic acid from glucose. A dose of [chi]-radiation sufficient to inhibit the breakdown of glucose by the tissue, had no effect on the formation of lactic acid from hexose di- or mono-phosphate or glucose-1-phosphate (Cori ester). The decrease in activity of the dehydroglucose system in young embryonic brains, which was caused by irradiation, was corrected completely or partly, by the addition of co-enzyme I to the tissue.
