Abstract

The half-life of

{Cs}^{137}

was found to be 26.6±0.4 years by observing the disintegration rate of a known number of atoms. The disintegration rate was measured with a

4 π

proportional counter and the number of atoms was determined from isotope dilution data obtained with a mass spectrometer.
