Abstract
Extensive spontaneous-emission data on Ne ii have been obtained using a cw neon-laser discharge as the spectroscopic source. The measured branching ratios are used to evaluate the accuracies of previous determinations of Ne ii 3s–3p and 3p–3d line strengths. Our results show that some of the previously tabulated line-strength values are clearly in need of revision. New determinations of the line strengths for the Ne ii 3s–3p, 3p–3d, and 3p–4s transitions are given. Calculated radiative lifetimes of various Ne ii 3s, 3p, 3d, and 4s states are also given and compared with the published experimental lifetimes for a few of the 3p and 4s states of Ne ii.Keywords
