THE DYNAMICS OF THE ELECTRODISSOLUTION OF COPPER

Abstract
Experiments were carried out on the electrochemical dissolution of a copper disk electrode rotating at 1000 rpm in a a solution of 1 N H2S04 and 0.1 M NaCI. Current was measured as a function of applied potential; the current was steady for E < 300mV(SCE) and oscillatory in the range 300 ≤ E ≤ 1050 mV(SCE). Type III intermittcncy and period doubling to chaos were observed in the non-steady region. The observed chaos is low order, i.e., has a correlation dimension between 2.1 and 3.5
