METABOLISM OF 11β-HYDROXY-Δ4-ANDROSTENE-3,17-DIONE IN CONGENITAL ADRENAL HYPERPLASIA*

Abstract
The metabolism of llβ-hydroxy-Δ4-androstene-3,17-dione was examined in a patient with congenital adrenal hyperplasia and compared with a prior study of that hormone in subjects without that disorder. In 2 experiments, 79 and 87 per cent of the neutral steroids were identified as 3 of the major metabolites of the hormone. There was no evident difference in the metabolic pattern with congenital adrenal hyperplasia. This disorder is discussed with reference to steroid production and the metabolites found in urine.
