Abstract
Eight rotational transitions of the υ 2 = 1 state of chlorine dioxide have been observed and assigned. The spin–rotation constants for the υ 2 = 1 state were determined by fitting the hyperfine structure. A theoretical treatment of the vibrational dependence of the spin–rotation constants was developed. Numerical calculations employing an extended Hückel method were carried out, and their results were compared with the experimental results. The rotational constants of the υ 2 = 1 state were determined, and the resulting cubic force constants are K 122 = + 4.2 cm −1 and K 222 = − 9.0 cm −1 .Keywords
