De-excitation of Metastable Nitrogen Molecules in Collisions with N2 and NO

Abstract

The cross section for de‐excitation of the $A^3{\Sigma }_u^{+}$ state of N₂ in collisions of a metastable molecular beam with NO and N₂ molecules has been measured in the energy range 250–2200 eV. The two cross sections are roughly the same in magnitude, and decrease toward higher velocities approximately as $\mathrm{(b–a}\log {\mathrm{\upsilon )}}^2$ .
