Abstract
Laser‐induced fluorescence excited from the HgBr (B 2Σ–X 2Σ) bands has been used to determine the vibrational distribution of HgBr (X 2Σ) photofragments of the photodissociation of HgBr2 at 193 nm. The fraction of HgBr molecules initially formed in the B 2Σ state was determined to be 60+15−10%. The remaining 40+10−15% of molecules directly formed in the HgBr (X 2Σ) ground electronic state constitutes an important channel for photodissociation at 193 nm.Keywords
