Abstract
124 strains were examined. 62% of these belong to 2 spp., Mycobacterium phlei and M. smegmatis. Descrs. of each sp. are presented. M. berolinense, M. butyricum, M. friburgensis, M. friedmannii, M. graminis, M. lacticola. and M. stercoris are listed in the synonymy of M. smegmatis. All strains of M. ranae studied are identical with M. smegmatis, but not in agreement with Raster''s original account. Keywords
