Abstract
Spore suspensions of Bacillus cereus and B. subtilis were studied. The first and essential germination stage was found to be the darkening of the translucent spores. Adenosine in minute concns. caused this darkening and induced physical changes almost immediately. Adenosine appears to act as an indicator of conditions suitable for growth. No other substance tested had this effect. Keywords
