Abstract
A system is described for the maintenance of isolated cells from mouse spleens during short periods of time in vitro. Active [gamma] M antibody synthesis continues throughout the experimental period. The number of antibody-producing cells remains unchanged when the synthesis of DNA is inhibited. The effects of puromycin, parafluorophenylalanine, actinomycin D and hydrocortisone have also been tested and their dose-dependent effects established. [gamma]M antibody synthesis is shown to follow the same pattern as mammalian protein synthesis in general.
