Abstract
"Mel B" (a melaminyl compound) has been found excellent in the treatment of Trypanosoma gambiense infections and recently has been successfully tried on advanced cases of T. rhodesiense which had proved resistant to Bayer 205. Such cases have been hitherto regarded as incurable. "Arsobal" is supposedly identical with "Mel B" and gave equally satisfactory results. It is too soon to declare that these drugs can "cure" T. rhodesiense infections but they certainly suppress the acute symptoms for periods of up to 18 months. These drugs are not safe to use in mass protection treatments, but under careful supervision have shown themselves the most promising yet developed for attacking advanced cases of T. rhodesiense infections and cases that are resistant to other drugs.
