Immunological Studies in Embryology and Genetics

Abstract

Examples of such studies are, the immunological reactions between egg and sperm of sea urchins and other animals; the growth of embryonic organs of chicks subjected to antibodies against respective adult organs; effects of antisera on locomotion and other responses in Paramecium aurelia: studies on species relationships in doves; observations that genes on numerous chromosomes of a species produce antigens of the red cells; the induction of hemolytic disease in the chick against certain cellular antigens as a result of the transmission of antibodies to the chick. Considering that much of our knowledge of proteins and protein-like substances rests upon the findings in which immunological methods are used, it is reasonable to suppose that such methods will be indispensible in the future.
