Abstract
The concentration of free amino acids and related compounds in muscle extracts from normal and from vitamin E-deficient (dystrophic) rabbits was determined by ion-exchange chromatography. In the severely dystrophic animal, the levels of most of the amino acids were elevated; l-methylhistidine, carnosine, and anserine decreased in concentration. Even at the earliest stage of the disease, the concentration of glycine was markedly reduced. Keywords
