Effect of Cortisone on Free Amino Acids in the Serum and Organs of the Rabbit

Abstract
Changes induced by a subcut. injn. of 25 mg. of cortisone in free amino acids of the serum and organs of rabbits were studied by paper chromatographic analysis. No qualitative changes were observed. The concn. of most amino acids in serum increases steadily from 2 to 18 hrs. after the injn. There is a marked increase in the concn. of most free amino acids in striated muscle. Smaller increases are detected in thymus. The concn. of several free amino compounds is decreased in liver. The distr. in kidney is little affected. There is much variation between the changes of the individual amino acids, depending on the particular compound and tissue under consideration.
