Abstract
In vit. B1 deficient pigeons and rats, brain tissue loses its capacity to de-carboxylate pyroracemic acid. Attempts were made to determine whether there is a similar failure to break down phenyl-pyroracemic acid and whether its elimination would be increased by feeding l-phenyl-alanine. In vit. B1 deficient rats, elimination of phenyl-pyro racemic acid exceeded that of controls by a small amt. The expts. do not explain the mechanism of phenyl-pyroracemic acid excretion in Imbecillitas phenylpyruvica. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
