Factors Limiting Bacterial Growth

Abstract

By centrifugalization, fractions were obtained from cultures of Shigella flexneri, but not of the motile Escherichia coli, which showed small differences in average size of cells. The larger organisms exhibited a shorter latent period in broth than the smaller. These differences were in satisfactory agreement with the requirements of theory.
