Abstract
The orderly conversion of a tricarboxylic acid to alpha-ketoglutarate has been demonstrated in bacteria. Triphosphopyridine nucleotide is the coenzyme for the reaction. Diphosphopyridine nucleotide does not function. Mn++ or Mg++ are required. Co++ functions almost as well as Mg++. The pH optimum is approx. 7.4. The isocitric dehydrogenase from Escherichia freundii has been purified partially by ammonium sulfate fractionations. Keywords
