Abstract
In a series of 26 compounds tested for carcinogenicity by lifetime skin application on Swiss-Millerton mice, 8 gave both benign and malignant tumors. The carcinogenicity of 6 of these compounds has not been reported on before; they are: 1,2,4,5-diepoxypentane, 1,2,6,7-diepoxyheptane, glycidaldehyde, β-butyrolactone, 1-hydroperoxycyclohex-3-ene, and ascaridole. Several of these weak carcinogens were found also to be weak initiators by single application on mouse skin followed by repeated application of croton resin as promoter. Carcinogenicity and mutagenicity relationships for this series of compounds are discussed. Keywords
