Abstract
Preparations of yeast vitamin B (curative), have been separated from the concentrates and in 2 cases possessed an activity of 0.027 mgm. per day (pigeon dose). The technique for the separation is reproducible down to an activity of 0.1 mgm. per day. Phospho-tungstic acid and H2PtCl6 can be used for concentrating yeast vitamin B. The solubility of the vitamin in ethyl alcohol varies with the activity of the preparation and with the p H of the alcohol treated solution. Vitamin B is insoluble in chloroform, carbon tetra-chloride, ether, acetone and ethyl acetate. The vitamin is unstable in alkali and stable in oxidizing and certain reducing agents. It is suggested that 2 forms of yeast vitamin B occur in an aqueous extract of yeast. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
