THE CARBON DIOXIDE DISSOCIATION CURVE OF FROG HEART MUSCLE

Abstract

By equilibration of frog ventricle with various CO2-O2 mixtures, and subsequent volumetric measurement of the combined CO2, displaced by acid, the dissociation curve of the tissue was obtained. The curve was lower and its slope less than that found by Fenn for skeletal muscle. The buffering power, [beta] of van Slyke, for frog heart was found to be 0.0045, as compared with 0.01 for frog skeletal muscle and 0.02 for frog blood.
