Suppression of Glycosuria During Administration of Large Doses of Aspirin to Force-Fed Partially Depancreatectomized Rats

Abstract

Aspirin was admd. to partially depan-creatized male rats which were force-fed a medium carbohydrate diet Following a control period of several wks. each rat received aspirin by subcut. injn. in daily amts. of 40, 80 and 160 mg. for 7 days at each dose level. The marked suppression of glycosuria noted was proportional to the dose of aspirin. Its amelioration was accompanied by partial suppression of the hyperglycemia, but there was no decrease in urinary NPN. On the contrary, the highest dose of aspirin (160 mg. daily) caused some increase in N loss at a time when the suppression of glycosuria was max.
