Abstract
Five strains of N. intracellularis have been grown from small inocula in a simple medium consisting of glucose or lactate, glutamate, thio-sulfate, CaCl2, NH4Cl, NaCl, MgSO4 and buffer phosphates. Growth was poor in the absence of Ca. Asparagine and cystine inhibited growth. The fermentation of glucose, lactate and pyruvate was studied.
