Observations of a High-Spin Yrast Cascade inCr50

Abstract
A ground-state band with spin up to Jπ=12+ was observed in Cr50 from the reactions Ca40(O16, 2pα)Cr50, Mg24(S32, 2pα)Cr50, Ca40(N14, 3pn)Cr50, and Ca40(C12, 2p)Cr50. Spin and parity assignments were made from γγ coincidences, angular distributions, and linear-polarization measurements. The higher-spin states are reasonably well reproduced in the (1f72)n shell-model frame while discrepancies exist for the lower ones. These levels have collective features at lower excitation but very pure shell-model characteristics towards the maximum spin expected in the (1f72)n space.
