Abstract
The methods employed for twenty of the chemical tests performed in the clinical laboratory were evaluated by a questionnaire submitted to Members of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Automation was used for one or more of the procedures in 43% of the replies to the questionnaire and was used most frequently in the larger hospitals with a large work volume. Commercial kits were used most frequently in enzyme determinations. The choice of various biochemical methods and the use of automation appear to have some correlation with geographic areas.
