HYPOGLYCEMIC EFFECTS OF GROWTH HORMONE IN FASTING HYPOPHYSECTOMIZED RATS

Abstract
Purified growth hormone, practically free of "contaminating" hormones, was injected into hypophysectomized rats which had been fasted for approx. 18 hrs. Within 1-3 hrs., typical hypo-glycemic symptoms, such as torpor and convulsions, were exhibited. The blood sugar level was markedly further depressed than that of untreated controls fasted for the same period.
