Simulations of gap-soliton generation

Abstract
Numerical results are presented showing the generation of gap solitons by external pulses incident on a nonlinear periodic medium. It is shown that the required energy strongly depends on whether the effective index of the periodic structure is well matched to the refractive indices of the surrounding media.Keywords
