INCREASED REQUIREMENTS OF PANTOTHENIC ACID AND VITAMIN B6 DURING EXPERIMENTAL HYPERTHYROIDISM

Abstract
Rats fed a diet containing a normal but minimal amt. of yeast lost wt. when thyroid gland was fed. Injs. of thiamin stopped the loss of wt., but the rats did not regain their lost wt. until a rich source of the vit. B2 complex, as yeast, was added to the diet. Injs. of pyroxidin (vit. Ba) and Ca pantothenate effectively replaced yeast, and the rats gained while still receiving thyroid gland. Thus in addition to thiamin, both pyroxidin and pantothenic acid are required in larger amts. during exptl. hyperthyroidism.
