We show that the flexoelectric part of the spontaneous polarization in chiral smectic C* liquid crystal does not contribute at all to the static dielectric constant in the ferroelectric phase. Recent experimental data which concluded to a large flexoelectric contribution from dielectric constant analysis must be reinterpreted
