REGULATORY EFFECT OF MALONATE ON GLUCOSE METABOLISM IN HUMAN EARLIER PLACENTA*

Abstract
The addition of malonate (1.5 times of glucose in mol. ratio) decreased O2 consumption of placenta 13-20 weeks) for glucose, increased aerobic formation of lactate, and lowered glycogenesis, lipid synthesis and CO2 production as determined by C14. incorporation from Cl4-glucose. Those metabolic patterns from C14-malonate were not influenced by glucose.
