Abstract
The effect of salyrgan upon the water content of the plasma of dogs was studied by means of the Abbe refractometer. There was no evidence of plasma dilution preceding the onset of diuresis. During the early part of diuresis the refractive index rose gradually. When the index had increased approximately 0.0010 no further concn. of the plasma occurred although the urine volume during the period of observation considerably exceeded the calculated loss of water from the plasma. The results indicate a primary direct action of salyrgan on the kidney with a secondary inflow of fluid from the tissue spaces.
