Free fatty acid production by rabbit lung tissue in vitro

Abstract
Lipolytic activity of mammalian lung tissue was demonstrated in the rabbit either by incubating minced tissue samples with substrate or by perfusing the whole organ with a mixture of triglycerides in saline. The enzyme involved in the lipolytic process has the characteristics of a lipoprotein lipase. No evidence was found that plasma lipoprotein lipase activity is increased by perfusion through the lung.
