The hyperfine structure of121Sb and123Sb

Abstract
The hyperfine structure of the J=3/2 ground state of 121Sb and 123Sb has been studied by the atomic beam magnetic resonance method, and the results are consistent with the following values for the interaction constants: gJ =-l·9705±0·0002, A 121=-(299·034 ± 0·004) Mc/s, A 123=-(162·451 ± 0·003) Mc/s, B 121=-(3·68±0·02) Mc/s, and B 123=-(4·67 ± 0·03) Mc/s. To the accuracy of the measurements there was no evidence for an octupole interaction. From the B values one obtains Q 121=-(0·20 ± 0·03) x 10−24 cm2 and Q 123=-(0·20 ± 0·04) x 10−24 cm2, and comparison of A 121/A 123 with the ratio of g 121/g 123 already published gives -0·318±0·003% for the hyperfine structure anomaly. Intermediate coupling theory accounts satisfactorily for gJ , but an admixture of excited s states is necessary to explain the observed magnetic interaction and anomaly.
