PRIMARY HYPERPARATHYROIDISM DUE TO A PARATHYROID ADENOMA: ANTEMORTEM DIAGNOSIS WITH TERMINATION IN POSSIBLE ACUTE PARATHYROID HORMONE INTOXICATION

Abstract
The case presented - a 25-year-old white female - showed evidence of primary hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid adenoma on her first admission in 1947. She had a clinical remission lasting almost 6 years. Preterminally she developed the rare complication of acute parathormone intoxication, precipitating coma and death; this followed biopsy of the submaxillary gland.
