Abstract
In the process of spontaneous parametric down-conversion a signal and an idler photon are created simultaneously. By use of the photoelectric detection of the signal photon as a gate, a good approximation to the ideal localized one-photon state can be achieved. This has been confirmed by direct photon-counting measurements. Keywords
