Abstract

Stress splitting and polarization of the 5456-Å zero-phonon line in irradiated NaF suggest that this line and its mirror absorption and emission bands are due to the predicted

{}^{1}A_{1} \leftrightarrow {}^{1}E

transition of the

{F_{3}}^{+}

center.
