Small-Momentum-Transferp−pInelastic Scattering at 300 GeV/c

Abstract
We have performed an experiment on pp inelastic scattering at National Accelerator Laboratory to study the reaction p+pp+X. We cover the range in |t| from 0.019 to 0.17 (GeV/c)2 by measuring the low-energy recoiling protons. The range in MX2 measured is from 0 to 60 GeV2. The "diffractive" cross section is determined to be in the range 3.2<σ<4.7 mb. Unexpected behavior is observed at low |t| for 8<MX2<14 GeV2.
