Effect of Feeding Fat on Duration of Thiopental Anesthesia

Abstract
The duration of thiopental anesthesia was significantly decreased (using the return of the righting reflex as the end point) in albino rats by the feeding of 2 cc. of corn oil by stomach tube 2 hrs. before the intraven. injn. of thiopental. This decrease was attributed to a chylomicronemia and hyperlipemia produced by the corn oil. The chylomicrons take up the thiopental upon injn. thus decreasing its anesthetic action.
