Erythrocytosis Associated with Gerebellar Hemangioblastoma

Abstract
Erythrocytosis appears to be more accurate than polycythemia vera in describing the hematological disorder seen occasionally in association with cerebellar hemangioblastoma since only the red blood cell series is involved. In the case presented, pulmonary function studies, blood gas analyses, blood volume determinations and therapy with radioactive phosphorus were carried out. Results indicated that anoxia is absent and the respiratory center functions normal. The evidence favors the theory that a humoral factor stimulating erythropoiesis is elaborated by some cerebellar hemangioblastomas.
