IN VITROBIOSYNTHESIS OF ISOTOPIC ALDOSTERONE: COMPARISON OF PRECURSORS1

Abstract
Progesterone-4-C14, desoxycorticosterone- 4-C14, and corticosterone-4-C14 are converted to aldosterone by aerobic incubation with beef adrenal capsule strippings. The yield of aldosterone from a two-hour incubation of progesterone was significantly greater than the yield from similar incubations of desoxycorticosterone or corticosterone. The specific activity of the radioactive aldosterone relative to that of the labeled precursor was also higher in progesterone incubations than in those in which desoxycorticosterone or corticosterone was used as a steroid substrate.
