Quadrupole Moment of the First Excited State of Spherical Nuclei

Abstract
Two mechanisms are described which can account qualitatively for enhanced static quadrupole moments of the first excited () state of spherical nuclei. The associated calculations indicate the breakdown of the usual approximations based on pairing theory plus random-phase approximation.
